This week answers a complex question about our identity in Christ. You will read through Scripture to determine who God tells us we are as believers in Christ.

The world may give us many titles: mom, dad, student, entrepreneur, thief, liar. Some titles may be good and others perceived as bad. As Christians, however, our focus should be on what God tells us we are. In seasons of life where we feel lost, out of control. or unfocused, we need to keep our trust in God. This means trusting the promises he's made us, trusting that he is sovereign in every situation, and trusting who he calls us to be. This week will be simple. We will be looking at Scripture and seeing who we are in Christ. Because Christ died for us, we can have a relationship with God. Through Christ's sacrifice for us, we can be assured that we are accepted, secure, and significant regardless of what the world tells us.
I am accepted in Christ
I am God's Child. - "12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God" (John 1:12-13, NIV).
I am Christ's friend. - "5 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you" (John 15:15, NIV).
I have been justified. - "1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 5:1, NIV).
I am united with the Lord and one with Him in Spirit. - "17 But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit" (1 Corinthians 6:17, NIV).
I have been bought with a price. I belong to God. - "19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20, NIV).
I am secure in Christ
I am free forever from condemnation. - "1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death" (Romans 8:1-2, NIV).
I am assured that all things work together for good. - "28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28, NIV).
I am free from any condemning charges against me. - "33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us" (Romans 8:33-34, NIV).
I cannot be separated from the love of God. - "35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?" (Romans 8:35, NIV).
I have been established, anointed, and sealed by God. - "21 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us 22 set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come" (2 Corinthians 1:21, NIV).
I am significant in Christ
I am the salt and light of the earth. - "13 'You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. 14 'You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden" (Matthew 5:13-14, NIV).
I am a branch of the True Vine. - "1 'I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5 'I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing" (John 15:1-5, NIV).
I have been chosen and appointed to bear fruit. - "16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you" (John 15:16, NIV).
I am a personal witness of Christ's. - "8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8, NIV).
I am God's temple. - "16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?" (1 Corinthians 3:16, NIV)
